Having been around since 18th century, this serves as the final resting place of around 6 million human bones in Paris. Now a National Historic Landmark in the USA, it’s opened to be explored by the public 7 days a week. Some of the areas of this 11-acre prison are off limits and they have been left as they were since the structure was closed. Many of those who visit the penitentiary say that they experienced scary things like hearing laughing sounds, footsteps and other strange noises.

The Whaley House

LIFE Magazine named it the most haunted house in America. The construction of the house was finished in 1857 and it has witnessed several deaths of the Whaley family including the suicide of one of the daughters, Violet, in 1885. It was turned into a museum in 1960 and many visitors claim that they hear strange noises and see ghosts of the different family members, as well as that of James Robinson or Yankee Jim, who was hanged here before the Whaley family moved in.

Sedlec Ossuary

It’s also an ossuary like the Catacombs of Paris. This one is located in Sedlec in Czech Republic. The bones of around 70,000 people could be found here. Aside from some of the bones being lined in tunnels and walls, there are also those that were made into decorations like the chandeliers and other wall pieces. It’s a World Heritage Site that’s visited by over 200,000 people every year. Nevertheless, it’s still scary since no matter how cool and artistic the decors are, they are still made from the bones of dead people.

Hoia-Baciu Forest
