How Traveling Can Hurt Your Heal

ILLNESS TO WELLNESS

how-traveling-can-hurt-your-healthYou sure would not want to bring home a cold or flu or a long-term illness as a memento of your recent travel, would you? But sometimes, you become so taken away of having a good time while you are on vacation that you forget about caring for yourself. Here are 8 mistakes travelers are prone to do that put their health at risk.

Eating too Much

We get it. You want to have the most authentic experience of your destination. But that does not mean you can have every dish available without precaution. Remember, you are in a foreign land and apart from the difference in culture, there is also that difference in cuisine. Yes, it is nice to try something different but if it will cause your stomach go haywire, would you still be willing to do it? Being picky on what you eat is one great precaution but you must also pay attention on the volume of your intake. Do not make the excuse that it is “good” food and that you could have as much as you want. The least that you can get from such mindset is acid reflux and heart burn. You would not want to know what the others are.

Not Drinking Enough Water

It is essential that you keep yourself hydrated, especially if you are having busy days. But do not just pick any water. Make sure that it is safe, clean, drinking water.

Slacking off on Sleep

Sleeping and getting enough rest is very important no matter what time zone you are in. Plan your itinerary in a way that will not make you sacrifice your resting time. If you simply can’t miss a late night event, be sure that you would not have an early the next day.

Not Using Sun Protection

Even in a destination where it is freezing cold, you will still need as much sun protection for the exposed skin, like your face. According to experts, the UV rays exposure can be as damaging while you are skiing on the slopes as they are when you are out on the beach. Try not to make any exception. You must apply sunscreen lotion every time you will be outdoors.

Not Wearing the Proper Gear

When you pack for a vacation, make sure that you bring suitable clothes for your itinerary. Style only comes third after comfort and safety. If you are going on a hiking trip, packing comfy, perfect-fitting hiking shoes is essential. If you are having a winter holiday, sweaters and the like must populate your luggage.

Not Getting a Vaccine

This is where knowing your destination becomes relevant. And we do not mean knowing in a sense that will make you identify the attractions, what to eat, and what to do. We meant knowing in a sense that will make you aware of the possible infections you might incur so you know what vaccines you must get before leaving. For example, if you plan to enjoy a safari holiday in Africa, you need a yellow fever vaccine to keep yourself protected.

Exposing Yourself to Bedbugs

Even the best hotels may be infected with bedbugs. Before you settle into your room, make sure that you perform a thorough inspection of the bed, the luggage rack, as well as the furniture pieces. Look for any sign of infection. Bedbugs can take a toll on your comfort. Pesky bites can take quality time from your rest.
