Gorgeous beaches, great food and colorful culture are what await you on your vacation here. While Cayman Islands, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and Jamaica are some of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean, there are around 700 islands, cays, reefs and islets in the region. This means that there are other destinations that are less popular to tourists but are equally beautiful and are more affordable too. Here are some of them.

Caye Caulker

This island is 20 miles away from Belize City. You could ride a small plane or water taxi to reach it. The gorgeous beach where you could go swimming or do various water activities like snorkeling and diving, is inviting. This is also the perfect spot for bird watching. It’s a nice break from a busy city because of its relaxing atmosphere. There are colorful small beachfront hotels where you could stay and restaurants to satisfy your hunger and thirst. You could go around the island by foot, golf carts or bikes as there are no cars here.

Rosario Islands

Also known as Corales Islas del Rosario, it’s 62 miles away from the city of Cartagena in Colombia. It’s one of the Natural National Parks of the country where people could fish, swim, snorkel and try different water sports. If you want to stay for a few days in this paradise, there are hotels and hostels around. Don’t miss trying the freshest seafood during your trip.

Dominica

If you love nature, this is the perfect destination as it’s called the Nature Isle of the Caribbean. Its natural beauty would make your jaw drop. Expect lush tropical rainforest, hiking trails, black beaches, hot springs, waterfalls, lakes, as well as exotic species of plants, flowers and animals including the Sisserou parrot, which is its national bird. Barbuda

This is a laid back island that can be reached within 3 hours with a boat or 20 minutes with a plane from Antigua. Head to the Frigate Bird Sanctuary at Codrington Lagoon using a water taxi and see a huge colony of birds.

Martinique

Aside from swimming, sailing and scuba diving, Martinique has lush mountains where you could go hiking and admire the unspoiled nature. Network of trails could be found here. After a tiring day full of adventures, take a rest in one of the hotels. Your taste buds and tummy would be happy with the most amazing foods that you could eat. The cuisine is a mix of African, Creole and French that wouldn’t disappoint you.

Saba

This volcanic island is not surrounded by beaches unlike most of the other islands in the Caribbean region. However, there are still loads of activities that tourists could try including climbing, hiking, scuba diving and boating. It’s called the Unspoiled Queen because of its nature preservation. You may also take the 1,064 steps going to Mt. Scenery and enjoy the breathtaking view.

Canouan

This small island that only has around 1,700 residents is part of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Get to the peak of Mount Royal, which is its highest point and get a bird’s eye view of the majestic scenery. Have fun in the waters of the pristine beaches or go diving and boating. This is where you could also find the biggest coral reefs around the world.

Culebra

Puerto Rico is a popular tourist destination in Caribbean, but not many check out the gorgeous island of Culebra. It has a relaxing and laid back atmosphere that would give you the best vacation experience. The beaches of the island are blessed with fine, white sand.
